As a passionate visual artist and an attentive observer of the evolving trends in art and culture, I have come to realize that art transcends mere decoration; it serves as a profound medium of expression and communication. Unfortunately, many still view it simply as a decorative item to hang on a wall, a perspective that reinforces longstanding misconceptions about its true value. Through my experiences, I have become increasingly intrigued by art’s transformative potential in enhancing the learning experiences of students. Recently, my curiosity has led me to delve into pedagogy, focusing particularly on STEM-based learning and the exciting fusion of art with the traditional STEM disciplines—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. I prefer to refer to this integration as TEAMS, as it resonates with modern sensibilities, and the term “steam machines” feels somewhat outdated in today’s world.
Slate Nest’s Modern Teaching Methods beautifully exemplify the features of TEAMS, creating an enriching educational environment that allows students to explore a rich tapestry of creativity. This encompasses deliberate, cognitive, sentimental, and spontaneous forms of expression, enabling students to tap into their diverse artistic voices. The recent introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the Bridge programme into our curriculum significantly enhances students’ understanding of art in a comprehensive manner. The new syllabus and teaching-learning material are designed for experiential, discovery-based, and inquiry-driven learning, making education a truly enriching journey. This holistic approach to education not only elevates artistic aspirations but also encourages us as art enthusiasts to deepen our appreciation for art, extending beyond our country’s education system to the vibrant tapestry of the wider society we inhabit.
What TEAMS Stands For
TEAMS is an innovative educational approach used by Slate Nest in its Art Learning program. This program is designed to encourage creativity and problem-solving while promoting well-rounded thinking. By highlighting the value of art, especially its performance aspects, TEAMS helps individuals connect deeply with their creative work. This connection sparks curiosity and develops important soft skills like critical thinking, communication, and teamwork. These skills are essential for facing the challenges of today’s workforce.
