March 28th, 2025: Slate Nest to Host Vivekananda Bagchi’s Student Showcase
In an exciting development for the local art scene, Slate Nest (Chinaki Kitap Ghar) Art Gallery in Panbazar will feature a showcase of works by students of emerging artist and instructor Vivekananda Bagchi. This exhibition highlights the talent cultivated at the Prism Pencil Portrait and Art Training Institute, which Bagchi founded during the lockdown in 2020.
Vivekananda Bagchi, who specializes in pencil portraits, began his artistic journey amidst the challenges of the pandemic. Not only has he focused on improving his skills, but he has also dedicated himself to teaching and inspiring a new generation of artists. His institute has become a hub for artistic expression, emphasizing the importance of patience and determination as values to be nurtured in young creatives. “Patience and determination can be instilled in students playfully through art,” he states, reflecting his passion for teaching.
Over the years, Bagchi has been actively involved in promoting local art through various cultural programs, including events at the Kite Festival in 2022 and participation in the Gauhati Artists’ Guild in 2023 and 2024. His collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra in 2024 further established his commitment to the enrichment of the arts in the region.
Currently, Bagchi is also improving his own skills at the Assam Fine Arts & Craft Society while guiding his students to develop their unique artistic voices. The student showcase at Slate Nest is expected to feature a diverse range of artistic works, demonstrating the creativity and skill that Bagchi has instilled in his students.
